    NXP has removed bjt3500t model from SiMKit version 4.8. If you plan to use this device, you need to use SiMKit version 4.7.
    SiMKit location can be specified using the variable  /goldengate/simkit/libpath  in the goldengate.conf file. For more information, see Using the Registry File to Set Variables.

Problems Fixed

  • GoldenGate did not use BSIMCMG binning data properly.

  • The internal parameter "__ALIAS__" was not ignored by TMC models and displayed a warning.

  • GoldenGate was ignoring some Spectre BSIMCMG model parameters.

  • [CR] - Mixing products produced different results in Data Display and mix function.

  • HISIMHV 2.1 model failed in GoldenGate when instantiated with more than the default number of pins.

  • HISIMHV 2.0.1 DC sweep cases were crashing.

  • UTSOI 2.11 showed incorrect results as a function of temperature.

  • Noise Contributor names were incorrect for some models.

  • In VTB mode, the ET simulator was always recomputing its Envelope model.

  • Fast Envelope did not support RF-BB VTB.

  • Output noise results for UTSOI 211 and UTSOI 210 models in GoldenGate were not matching with that of Spectre.

  • For BSIMIMG 102.7, convergence failed when self-heating was turned on.

  • [VTB] - Connection to gnd! were mapped to a new node: __GG__0__.

  • [VTB] - Netlisting was incorrect when a virtual source with gnd! is placed in a hierarchy.

  • [VTB] - VTB was not working when a source was placed in the hierarchy.

New Feature Support

Support for Custom Paths to Models

This option allows a user to specify the location of user written MINT models and these models are loaded in GoldenGate. Users do not have to copy the model to the default directory.

In the GoldenGate registry file, update values for the following keys:

  • /goldengate/ggparser/translation_file: Specify a colon-separated list of search paths for GoldenGate parser translation files. The parser uses this information to translate spectre netlist information to a form that GoldenGate simulator can use.
  • /goldengate/liana/translation_file: Specify a colon-separated list of search paths for GoldenGate simulator translation files. The simulator uses this information to translate GoldenGate netlist so that it can locate the executable library implementing the model.

The files are processed in the order they are listed, with the default translation table automatically added at the end of the list. If information related to a model is found in more than one file, the information found first is used.

If the user provides a non-standard model, however, a translation table file may be required. For more information about this file and how it is used, contact your Keysight EEsof support team.

Problems Fixed

  • Virtual power probing does not work with Momentum components and analogLib's nport component in general.

  • An incorrect value is displayed when using analogLib/nport in virtual probe definition the pin number is off.

  • ACSTAB analysis computed gain margin even when it didn't exist in the simulation frequency range.
  • MOSVAR 1.2 showed convergence issue when 2nd and 3rd pins are shorted.

So we had to turn it off in our environment. If users switch to spectre after a GoldenGate session this will remain off and they won't get this optimization even with spectre. If they don't invoke GoldenGate at all then this won't be an issue.

New Feature Support

Parallel Modeling

This option may be used to speed up some Fast Envelope simulations by paralleling internal tasks (depending on the scenario required to characterize the circuit). This option sets the number of jobs that can be used to parallelize the modeling phase. For example, when set to 4, it may speed up some Fast ET Level3 simulations of PAs by a factor between 2X and 3X. 

Range : 1 (no parallelization) - 4 (four jobs in parallel).

Import: Import output definitions from a text file with a ".csv" extension to add to the output list. (IC6.x only)
Export: Export the current output list to a text file with a ".csv" extension. This can be imported back to a ADE session to add to the output list. (IC6.x only)

Problems Fixed

  • Problem fixed of the discrepancies between the H-Parameters computation in the performances and what Spectre is giving.

  • Problem fixed when GoldenGate is crashing if it does not find the binning parameter.
  • Problem fixed when SPICE primitive is used in Verilog-A source file generates "Parsing failed" error.

    • The interpolation used in the goal is rectified.

    • The goal data that were not re-ordered (sorted), are now fixed.

  • Problem fixed to make MacroModel work in GoldenGate.

Doc update

Save Probe Data

This function allows you to save simulation information at the probes with the following options:

  • All - Data will be stored at each probe in the schematic.
  • List- When this option is selected, a combo box is displayed. You can either enter the probe or right-click and select Select Multiple Instances to select list of probes from the schematic. The simulator will only save information at the probes that are included in this list. Manually remove any probe name from the list for which you do not want information saved.
If List is selected and all probe names are deleted from the list, information for all probes will be saved.

New Feature Support

Import and Export support for ADE L Outputs expressions

In this release, two new options (Export and Import) have been added under the Outputs menu that enable you to export the expressions/signals into a .csv file format in a case you want to use the custom expressions in another setup and import an exported .csv file format.

Session documentation option in RFIC Cockpit

A new Add Global Option window is added under Setup > Session Information to set session documentation text. This option allows you to add free form information about the simulations being added in the current state.

Improvements

  • Verification Test Bench (VTB)
    • New SystemVue Engine 2015.01 has been integrated in this hotfix.
      • This change does NOT affect the existing VTBs available in the installed directory. It only affects the custom VTB (workspaces) that were created/edited/modified with SystemVue 2013.08 and older versions.
      • An automatic migration tool does not exist for this conversion, therefore it needs to be done manually. In order to update the workspace, you may need to open the VTB workspace in SystemVue 2015.01 (supported on Windows) and re-save it.
      • The 'converted' file will NOT be compatible with the previous version of GoldenGate.
    • Updated the VTB example, WLAN_802.11ac_Tx, to include the new "WindowingLength" parameter.
  • X-Parameter model: Improved interpolation method which provides better results on noisy data like data obtained from PNA-X measurements.
  • Improved the performance of simulation with a TSMC 40 nm PDK to wal_ltime="2.67128" cpu_time="0.084987" where earlier simulation was taking 20 second wal_time.
  • Improved the performance of the in VA/bsource compilation support in gpp/ggparser in second run. Earlier, on the second run, ggparser+sim was taking same time as of the first run.  

Problems Fixed

  • If you use ADE-L and run "netlist and run", an invalid probe dialog box is displayed. However, in ADE-XL, running "netlist and run" does not display this dialog box, but the system hangs. This is because, this dialog is modal that means it blocks the system until you close the dialog box. Now, the invalid probes are ignored to make simulation run without any issue.
  • Problem is fixed when the AC simulation fails at DC step due to 2nd and 3rd  MOSVAR 1.2  terminals were shorted.
  • Problem fixed with voltage noise sources in Verilog-A module. Noise sources written in the form V(a,b) <+ white_noise(…) were resulting in wrong noise value. Current noise sources (e.g. I(a,b) <+ white_noise(…)) were not affected by the issue.
  • Problem fixed in simulations of Envelope-Tracking PA with Fast Envelope Level 3. The memory resulting from the dynamic modulation of the DC supply conditions was not correctly characterized.
  • Problem fixed when you 'Set DC bias' voltage information in X Parameter Load Definition.

    • GoldenGate in ADS can be used in DC, AC, SP, TR, HB, ET, SSNA, IP, LSSP, and GC Analyses. The IP, LSSP, and GC Analyses are in beta state for this release.

  • Verification Test Bench (VTB): The VTB file format has changed.
    • This change does NOT affect the existing VTBs. It only affects the edited/modified VTBs.
    • An automatic migration tool does not exist for this conversion, therefore it needs to be done manually.
    • In order to update the design, you may need to open the VTB in SystemVue (window) and re-save it.
    • The 'converted' file will NOT be compatible with the previous version.

Keysight EEsof Licensing and GoldenGate

  • GoldenGate requires: a) version 2014.07 of the EEsof EDA licensing software, b) version 3.2 codewords to run, and c) the licensing server software, lmgrd and agileesofd, to be upgraded to at least the same versions as what are included in EEsof EDA Licensing software 2014.07. GoldenGate will not start if any of these requirements is not met. Refer to the   License Codeword Version Compatibility Table.
  • In the EEsof EDA License Tools version 2014.01, licensing vendor daemon ( agileesofd ) is upgraded to sync up with FlexNet FNP 11.11.1.2 version of FLEX license manager ( lmgrd ). GoldenGate installer for the Windows platform will automatically set up these two new license server daemons by default for the local node-locked license users; for Linux, you need to follow the   Linux/Solaris Licensing Setup instruction to complete the licensing configuration process. For more details, refer to Licensing (For Administrators)  .

Licenses supported in previous releases are no longer supported. For more information refer to Licensing .

Known Issues

  • GoldenGate in ADS
    • Schematic (unnamed) Node Names
      Handling of unnamed nodes is different in ADS than in Virtuoso®. By default, in Virtuoso® unnamed nodes use the format *** (for example, net1, net2, etc) whereas ADS uses N__*** (for example, N__1, N__2, etc). After an interoperable design is loaded in ADS, the original node names (net1, ...) will be kept until the design is modified or saved. At this point, the ADS defaults will apply. This may cause problems with GoldenGate virtual probes, since they refer to node names. A warning is displayed to redefine those probes.

     

    • Momentum Integration
      • Need to regenerate the old momentum views.
      • Parameterized layout is not supported.
      • In ADS, it is essential to generate a momentum view before running the simulation. This differs from the regular ADS flow.

     

    • Unsupported Elements
      • ADS primitive devices
        Workaround: Use analogLib or interoperable PDK components

    • Spacing between value and multiplier are not supported by GoldenGate, e.g. '1 m', '0.5 u'.
    • The Copy from Schematic option copies the variables available in the right-side of the deactivated devices to the RFIC Cockpit.
    • In Virtuoso®, pins are used from the basic library. In ADS, pins are used from the standard ADS library available from the toolbar.
      The GoldenGate in ADS does not support few GoldenGate features. For details, see RFIC Cockpit Limitations.
    • Simulating a virtual C-meter hierarchical probe gives error.
      Workaround: To simulate a virtual C-meter hierarchical probe, either create an hierarchical current probe using Analysis > Save Options > Select from schematic or create a virtual probe and keep the ‘Probe Name’ as hierarchy , for example: for NM0 transistor one level down the hierarchy, use Probe Name = NM0:d
      .

  • The FCE models that are extracted from GoldenGate 2015.01 (4.9.0) are incompatible with SystemVue 2013.08 release, and will cause SystemVue to crash.
    Workaround: To have SystemVue 2013.08 work with the GoldenGate 2015.01 FCE models, do the following:
    1. Extract the ggfet_systemvue.dll from
      <GoldenGate>/etc/ggfet_systemvue.win_32-o.2013.08.7z for 32-bit SystemVue
      <GoldenGate>/etc/ggfet_systemvue.win_64-o.2013.08.7z for 64-bit SystemVue
    2. Copy to the SystemVue location at
      C:\Program Files\SystemVue2013.08\Bin for 32-bit SystemVue
      C:\Program Files (x86)\SystemVue2013.08\Bin for 64-bit SystemVue
  • The Verification Test Bench (VTB) simulations:
    • Will produce independent ds files for the Sweep and Monte Carlo tasks.
    • Are not supported in conjunction with parallel simulations.
  • absdelay() is not supported in Carrier (HB) analysis. The system issues the following error.
    absdelay() operator is not currently supported in HB and ET analyses.
  • Parameter default in the nport device model. The default for the thermalnoise parameter is reset to match a new default in Spectre IC06.15.140 as following:

In the designs that use analogLib nport devices with the thermalnoise parameter set to a default, you will see some differences in the noise outputs with GolenGate 2014.10 (4.9.0) and later releases. To reproduce the older results, set thermalnoise=off in the nport devices in your schematics.
  • Compatibility issues with Spectre devices from analogLib:
    • noisetemp is ignored in analogLib nport device
  • With SSNA and FYC selected, S12 and S22 do not vary with trials. Only S11 and S21 results are correct.
  • The Sweep Task is not supported for the parameters with mapped names.
  • XP Analysis is not supported in simulations with GDE.
  • New/Old UI forms:
    • Old states containing sweep task variables and saved with the old UI can miss variable definitions when opened with the new UI.
      Workaround: When opening an old saved state with UI click on a variable entry in the sweep task listbox and apply, then resave the state.
  • In the Monte CarloTask:
    • Correlation variables that refer to device instances are not supported.
    • When a PDK parameter is declared to have both process and mismatch variations only the last declaration (in a netlist) is accepted.
    • weight is ignored for Yield Goals.
    • When simulation has failed for some MC trials with the Local Parallel setting the results for the failed trials are not accessible.
    • When re-running a parallel Monte Carlo simulation, after changing the number of processes and trials, the output data does not get refreshed correctly in an existing qWave plot.
      Workaround : Upload the updated data manually.
  • Instances of adsLib components inside model files will not be processed correctly if the Spectre format is set to be case-insensitive (simulator lang=spectre insensitive=yes). This is not an issue for most users that will be using the schematic editor.
    Workaround: Edit the model files so a simulator lang=spectre statement would precede the blocks with the adsLib components declarations and the default case sensitive format would be applied.
  • The use model of the Virtual Test Bench (VTB) has several restrictions that include:
    • Supported Analyses
    • Version of GoldenGate Tools it can be simulated with.
    • Signals it can handle.
    • Ports and simulation parameters settings
      For more information refer to   VTB Uses and Restrictions
  • After running a Momentum simulation, you may generate a symbol for the S-parameter model to reuse the data in the GoldenGate simulations. Note that in this case the symbol must be generated with a grounded reference pin to run in GoldenGate. However if you want to simulate the extracted view of a layout with a Momentum model for a part of the layout, you need to use the symbol for the S-parameter model generated without a reference pin.
  • Current and voltage output information is not available in the DDS Results Viewer when either an input Digital State File or Ptolemy components with parameter sweeps are used.
  • In Cadence ADE:
    • When simulation states are saved as the design cell views, opening several states simultaneously within the same ADE session might lead to state corruption.
      Workaround : Reload the corrupted states with Session > Load States
  • In IC6.x ADE:
    • The Vir Probe, Vir Src, and Job Manager buttons are not displayed in the window
      Workaround : Use the menu items instead to access to the Vir Probe, Vir Src and Job Managersettings, respectively, as follows:
      • Outputs > GoldenGate Probes ...
      • Setup > Virtual Source Editor ...
      • Simulation > Job Manager ...
    • A double-click on the Variables section in the ADE window launches the native dialog, not the one that belongs to the GoldenGate simulator.
      Workaround : To access the GoldenGate dialog, use Variables > Edit ...

    • If you need to use the Skill debugger, set gcdisable=t in your .cdsinit file.
  • Licensing 
    • Unable to install Flex-10 driver if Flex-9 dongle is already plugged into a machine.
      Workaround: Before installing a Flex-10 driver for the first time, unplug the Flex-9 dongle.
    • There is a known Flexera FNP issue, whereby mixing node-locked codewords and floating codewords in one license file can result in: a) Remote simulations not working or b) A second local simulation not working in case the license is node-locked and also has incorrect version.
      Workaround: It is strongly recommended that you do not mix node-locked codewords and floating codewords in one license file nor in any configuration that ends up with node-locked codewords and floating codewords both available on the same server. In other words, put the node-locked license and the floating license on different servers, and point to the respective one based on what you need to run.
      Additionally, we also recommend you to remove expired codewords, to separate out the new and the old versions of codewords into different files and different servers, and to point to the respective one based on what you need to run.
    • Not specifying the TCP/IP port for the license server during license setup may lead to unexpected behavior and/or license checkout failure on the Windows platform. We strongly recommend you to always explicitly specify the TCP/IP port associated with each license server.
    • A node-locked and floating bundle operating on Linux cannot be shared between products using EDA License Tools version older than 2014.01 when run at the same time.
    • License Setup Wizard does not remove any previous user-configured FLEX Windows License Service manually set up by a user using FlexNet's lmtools.
      Workaround: You must remove the previous user-configured Windows License Service via lmtools.
      • Run the lmtools.exe from C:\Program Files\Agilent\EEsof_License_Tools\bin to invoke the lmtools utility. The lmtools utility window is displayed.

        If you have installed an EEsof product released before 1st August, 2014 on your system prior to installing an EEsof product released after 1st August, 2014 then the default EEsof Licensing tools path will remain C:\Program Files\Agilent\EEsof_License_Tools. On the systems that only have EEsof products released after 1st August, 2014 installed then the default EEsof Licensing tools path will be C:\Program Files\Keysight\EEsof_License_Tools.
      • In the Service/License File tab, check the Configuration using Services option. All user-configured FLEX Windows License Services will be listed.
      • Select the service you wish to remove.
      • Select the Config Services tab and click the Remove Service button to remove the service.
        To ensure that the license service or lmgrd is running, click View Log. A log window appears that confirms whether agileesofd and lmgrd are up and running.
    • While running multiple versions of prior GoldenGate releases together, set GOLDENGATE_MAXIMUM_BUNDLE_USAGE=ON in your environment so that all of them will use the same method to check out licenses. Otherwise, you might receive an error message, "Licensed number of users already reached".
    • On some Windows 7 machines, when more than one definition of an Ethernet adapter exists (duplicates), license checkouts may appear to hang up.
      Workaround: Disable the duplicate network card definitions in your network settings: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections. This issue has been acknowledged by Flexera and they have created a bug report (SIOC-000103097).
    • For LSF style distributed simulations, ensure that the PATH on the client computer points to the $HPEESOF_DIR/EEsof_License_Tools/${architecture} directory that corresponds to the EEsof release being used. This needs to be done in order to ensure that the proper version of the Flexera utilities (like lmutil ) gets picked up in the path before any older in-compatible versions (that may also be installed on a users’ system.)
    • License Setup Wizard ( aglmwizard.exe ), which is used to set up and record the license path would not work if you already have an environment variable set for GOLDENGATE_LICENSE_FILE.
      Workaround: You can use  GOLDENGATE_LICENSE_FILE variable to point to license file or refer to Licensing (For Administrators).
    • The License Setup Wizard will exit or not properly configure a license server, if the server has all of its licenses currently in use.
      Workaround: Wait for a license on the server to become available as you normally would before launching the product.
    • Unable to set license in case unicode characters are used either in path or license file name because the Flex License Service does not support these characters.
    • The Product Selector tool will be unable to display the license server status properly when connected to older license server.
      Workaround: Upgrade your license server to the latest version.
    • The vendor daemon agileesofd sometimes crashes when running on remote Windows 8 machine. This crash occurs in the License Manager and Product Selector dialog boxes. GoldenGate can still run. Keysight is working with Flexera to resolve this issue.

      Workaround: Use a different operating system for remote license server. If you must use Windows 8, the vendor daemon may crash when viewing licenses with the License Manager or when requesting license availability from the Product Selector dialog box. The license server, lmgrd , automatically restarts the vendor daemon and license checkout can proceed normally.

    • When the same user is running similar simulations from multiple sessions of GoldenGate on the same computer and display—that is, the same User-Display-Host— and if simulations are rerun an extra license may be pulled.
      Workaround: Select Simulation > Stop in all the GoldenGate sessions to release all the simulator licenses, then rerun the simulations.
  • Documentation
    • GoldenGate online help is not supported on the Google Chrome browser.
      Workaround: Use Internet Explorer or Firefox to view GoldenGate documentation.
    • Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.5 crashes on RHEL 5 machine while accessing protected GoldenGate on-line documentation from Qt Help window.
    • If the GoldenGate help does not show any content, throws an error, or does not display any search results.
      Workaround: Close the help and delete the contents of the following directory:
      • On Windows 7: C:\Users\<Windows_Login_ID>\AppData\Local\Keysight\Help
      • On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows_Login_ID>\Local Settings\Application Data\Keysight\Help
      • On Linux: $HOME/.local/share/data/assistant/Keysight/Help
    • GoldenGate QT search does not support [] or {} or any other text using these combinations.
