The Connection Manager Server is a separate software download which manages connections between hardware and software. The Connection Manager can read data from, download data to, and control an instrument.
The ADS Connection Manager (CM) is based upon a Client/Server architecture. That is, the ADS CM Client is installed as part of your standard ADS installation and can reside on any workstation operating system that ADS supports (Ex: Windows, UNIX, Linux, etc). The ADS CM Client will work with the corresponding ADS CM Server to link to instrumentation and gather measured data. The ADS CM Server can only reside on a Windows PC which is connected via your desired IO interface (Ex: GPIB, LAN, USB-GPIB, etc). The most common installation is to have both ADS CM Client + CM Server installed on the same Windows PC. However, one could alternatively have ADS + CM Client (part of standard ADS installation) installed on a separate remote workstation (Ex: another ADS supported workstation: Windows PC, Linux, UNIX, etc..), and then CM Server (separate installation from standard ADS installation) installed on a different Windows PC which is connected via Agilent IO Libraries supported IO interface to your target instrument.
There are two ways to use ADS Connection Manager Client + Server interface:
- Connection Manager Client Measurement Window (from either RF/Analog or Ptolemy ADS Design Window, select Tools > Connection Manager Client...)
- Ptolemy Instruments Library CM Components (from Ptolemy ADS Design Windows, in the Instruments library, select any component that starts with "CM_")
